What's happening in the world of Cobb County ESOL?
1.KSU ESOL Conference
KSU and the Georgia Department of Education will hold the KSU ESOL Conference on February 7 - 9, 2012. If you are interested and want more information about the conference, click on the "Conferences" category.
2. ESOL Quarterly Training Dates
In an effort to ensure local school compliance with state and federal law, local school ESOL lead teachers will attend a mandatory training. This month's session will include information on ACCESS testing and updates on ESOL. The dates are as follows:
Elementary School Level: Thursday, January 19 (Areas 3, 4, 5) and Wednesday, January 25, 2012 (Areas 1, 2, 6)
Middle School Level: Tuesday, January 24, 2012
High School Level: Wednesday, January 18, 2012
All training sessions will be held from 8:30 - 4:00 at the Oakwood Campus in room 114.
A Report of Absence Form must be completed. The subcode will be sent via email and the form must be brought to the training OR sent via County Mail to Iride Gonzalez, ESOL, Central Office.
3. Are your school's enrollment practices OCR compliant?
Under Federal Law, all schools are required to provide ALL students with equal access to a public education regardless of their or their parents' perceived or actual citizenship or immigration status. A Dear Colleague letter was issued by the Office of Civil Rights on Friday, May 6, 2011. For more information regarding the requirements under federal law for student enrollment and a copy of the documents sent by OCR, check out the posting under "Student Intake."
4. ESOL Program Local School Contacts:
