Final Portfolio Requirements

After the completion of the three ESOL Endorsement classes (Linguistics, Culture, and Methods), the following assignments should be submitted to the instructor on a jump drive or disk:

Linguistics:

Linguistic Case Study (Transcription, analysis and recommendations)

Culture:

Experiential Boundary Crossing (summary and analysis)

Educational Setting Cultural Responsiveness Analysis

Methods & Materials:

ESOL Teaching Observations

ESOL Teaching Portfolio (time log, five lesson plans)

Language Proficiency Testing description

 

Are you interested in teaching ESOL?

The ESOL Endorsement may be added to an existing teaching certificate or to the Permit issued in the field of foreign languages. The ESOL Endorsement in the Cobb County School District is a PSC approved program offered under the supervision of Metro RESA and The University of Georgia. The Professional Standards Commission (www.gapsc.com) is the sole authority on certification issues and is the only agency authorized to issue official information.

The program requires the completion of three courses:  ESOL Linguistics; ESOL Culture; and ESOL Methods and Materials of Teaching ESOL, P-12. As this is a PSC approved program, each course must be taken in the Cobb program for credit; moreover, there are no provisions for transfer credit from other institutions or universities. The Linguistics course and the Culture course are pre-requisites for entry into the ESOL Methods and Materials course.
