SIOP Overview for Administration: Mark your calendars for this training opportunity! The ESOL Division will host two SIOP Overview sessions on April 15th at the Martha J. Moore Center. National SIOP trainer, Al Hernandez, who is a former teacher, principal and superintendent of schools, will conduct this overview on SIOP. These sessions are geared for local school administrators, curriculum supervisors, ALTs and Academic Coaches. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Registration on INFORM is required.
Information on the presenter:
At Pearson, Alvaro Hernandez serves as a National SIOP Consultant delivering support through quality professional development trainings on all phases of training on the SIOP Model. Prior to joining Pearson, Alvaro, an English learner raised in poverty, has represented school districts across Texas as Superintendent of Schools, Curriculum/Federal Programs Director, Campus Administrator, Elementary and Secondary School Teacher, as well as a Bilingual/ESL Literacy Specialist. He has been recognized as an agent of change in helping to increase student achievement scores and in implementing the SIOP model in a district with fifty thousand students who represent over eighty languages. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools of North Texas, an organization which focuses on reaching out to at risk students and their families. After his first introduction to SIOP in 1999, he has presented individually and co-presented with the authors, Jana Echevarria, MaryEllen Vogt, and Deborah J. Short on the SIOP Model.
