Directions for Kindergarten W-APT administration:
For Kindergarteners entering in Fall 2011:
1. If the Home Language Survey indicates a language other than English*, the teacher may administer the Listening and Speaking portions of the K W-APT.
2. If student's combined Listening and Speaking raw score is less than 19, then the student is eligible for ESOL services without further testing.
3. WIDA** strongly recommends that the Reading and Writing portions of the W-APT be administered once 1st time Kindergartners have acclimated to school. Therefore, if the student's combined Listening and Speaking raw score is 19 or greater, the Reading and Writing portions of the W-APT will be administered in November. The student at this point is in "pending" status and must be monitored during the fall.
For the November testing:
1. If the Reading score is NOT 11 or higher OR the Writing score is not 12 or higher, then the student is eligible for ESOL services.
2. If the Reading score is 11 or higher and the Writing score is 12 or higher, then the child is not eligible for ESOL services.
*If English is present on every line in addition to another language, the teacher MUST contact home to verify language other than English before administering the W-APT.
**WIDA strongly recommends that the Reading and Writing portions of the K W-APT be administered in the Spring of the Kindergarten year as many of the skills assessed are taught during the first year of Kindergarten.
The State of Georgia has determined the W-APT scores that determine ESOL Eligibility.
